Nampa’s Amalgamated Sugar to Expand

9/7/2010
A two-year, $22.1 million construction project at Nampa’s Amalgamated Sugar plant has begun.

Plant Manager Kent Quinney confirmed the company has begun installation of new sugar making equipment that is expected to increase sugar extraction from sugar beets at its West Karcher Avenue location.

Amalgamated Sugar has hired 30 full-time tradesmen into the factory for construction, with another 60 or more contracting personnel expected during the peak of construction. Additionally, the company has its own engineering and purchasing group, journeyman electricians, pipe fitters, welders and technicians who are working on the project.

The general contractor is Amalgamated Sugar, which is also the lead architect.

Quinney said Amalgamated Sugar’s Nampa factory designs and installs projects ranging from $3 million in capital to $30 million annually.
