Inc. Ranks Coeur d'Alene, Boise High for Business

8/25/2008
Two Idaho cities ranked high on Inc. Magazine’s annual Best Cities for Doing Business. Coeur d’Alene ranked third among small cities and third overall, while the Capitol city of Boise ranked 12th among midsize cities.

Coeur d’Alene rose 13 spots on the overall Best Cities ranking to land at its lofty third place slot for 2008. The northern Idaho city ranked 10th among small cities last year.

The top two cities on the overall list were Midland, Texas and St. George, Utah.

The rankings were chosen by reviewing the robustness of a region’s growth, according to the magazine. Analysts looked at the recent growth trend, average annual 2002-2007 growth, long-term growth trend, and the current year’s growth.

Overall, the article shows the Pacific Northwest-Intermountain West continuing to do well, luring businesses away from places like California and the Northeast. The region’s “prodigious supplies of cheap and clean hydroelectric power” were cited.
