Sitting on the peaks of the Rocky Mountains, eastern Idaho provides an amazing wealth of natural resources and diversity of business. Its economy depends on a span ranging from "Mom and Pop" stores in rural, remote mountain hamlets of less than a 100, to hosting the site of one of only ten Department of Energy national laboratories. The region encompasses a 12-county area with a quarter of a million people spread over 15 million acres. Idaho National Laboratory's battery development and testing facilities, already among the most prestigious in the world, will more than double in size. A new 10,000 sqaure foot laboratory, known as the High Energy Battery Test Facility, will take up about a quarter of INL's Energy Systems Center, a complex soon to be under construction.
