Science & Technology Advisory Council
The Governor's Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC) was formed in 1999 by Gov. Dirk Kempthorne and charged with developing a strategic plan for science and technology.
From 1999 to 2007, the STAC—composed of university presidents, government agency leaders, and industry executives—studied Idaho’s science & technology climate in terms of education, research, commerce, and basic infrastructure and formulated Idaho’s Science & Technology Strategic Plan.
The council, staffed and administered by the Idaho Office of Science & Technology, met quarterly, commissioned various studies, heard presentations by science & technology stakeholders, and made recommendations to the governor with respect to science and technology development in Idaho.
In January, 2008, Governor Butch Otter articulated a vision for a more efficient and effective advisory function and elected to reorganize the STAC.
